Stiven Muccioli, Founder and CEO of BKN301, served on the judging panel of TechRound’s MENA40 2026, the UK publication’s first ranking of the most notable technology companies across the Middle East and North Africa. The panel of six judges assessed entries on execution, customer impact, scalability and commercial viability. Lean Technologies ranked first in the inaugural edition.

What is TechRound’s MENA40 2026?

TechRound’s MENA40 is a ranking of 40 technology companies operating across the Middle East and North Africa, published in July 2026. It is the first edition of the campaign.

TechRound is a UK startup and technology news publication founded in 2016. The MENA40 list was assessed by an independent panel of six judges drawn from fintech, venture capital and operating roles across Europe, Africa and the Middle East.

Judging criteria, as set out by the panel, covered:

  • the significance of the problem each company addresses
  • originality of the solution
  • strength and consistency of execution
  • measurable customer impact
  • scalability and commercial viability
  • clarity of leadership vision

Why the MENA40 judging panel matters for BKN301

BKN301 provides financial infrastructure to regulated banking institutions across EMEA and MENA. Assessing 40 companies building in the same markets gives a direct, structured view of where the region’s technology ecosystem is concentrating capital and engineering effort.

That perspective is operational rather than observational: the constraints the panel evaluated β€” regulatory fragmentation, financial inclusion, the gap between consumer applications and the rails beneath them β€” are the same constraints BKN301 addresses through the Orchestrator and its API Gateway and Data Decoupling layers.

What the 2026 cohort signals about MENA technology

β€œThis year’s MENA 40 reflects a clear shift: the region is moving from isolated wins to real infrastructure. Payments, digital-asset frameworks, and applied AI are solving problems specific to this market: financial inclusion, regulatory fragmentation, and real estate transparency.

β€œEgypt, the UAE, Saudi Arabia, and Morocco are each building distinct strengths, and the companies rising to the top share one trait: they’re built for scale, not just traction. MENA doesn’t need more apps: it needs infrastructure. The companies on this list understand that, and it’s why they stand out.”

Three patterns behind the ranking

Pattern

What the cohort shows

Infrastructure implication

Payments maturity

Payments and open-banking rails across the region are consolidating rather than proliferating

Institutions need governed connectivity between existing systems, not additional front-end products

Regulatory fragmentation

Distinct national frameworks across Egypt, the UAE, Saudi Arabia and Morocco

Multi-jurisdiction operations require a routing and governance layer, not per-market rebuilds

Applied AI

AI moving from standalone capability toward embedded execution

AI output needs governed data and connected workflows to reach production
